When we saw this video we just could not resist sharing it with you and telling you a bit more about the #CoverTheAthlete initiative.
First check out the video, it consists of mainstream male athlete’s being asked the same kind of trivial questions the media asks their female counterparts. Their reactions are both amusing and a sad reminder of the mainstream media’s role in the depiction of female athletes.
We have stayed out of the argument regarding sexualization of women and kiteboarding as it is such a multi faceted conversation that a one dimensional article from us would open a can of worms however hard we tried, especially as the problem comes rooter from our society well beyond the realms of just kiteboarding.
However this video is important and the sentiment it coveys is something we are proud to share and encourage you to do the same.

Sexist commentary, inappropriate interview questions, and articles focused on physical appearance not only trivializes a woman’s accomplishments, but also sends a message that her value is based on her looks, not her ability. And it’s much too commonplace.
