Living and Training in Tarifa – Rita Arnaus

A little update from Rita Arnaus who at the beginning of this year moved to Tarifa in the south of Spain which she considers as the best place for kiting in Europe.

At the beginning of this year I moved to Tarifa in the south of Spain. Is the best place for kiting in Spain so I decided to go there and train hard for the upcoming season!

The first few sessions in the water were very hard. After my trip to Brazil I hadn’t kited for almost 2 months so I had lost a lot of training. However I was super happy to be back in the water and even though it was very cold at least I could start to train again.

Recently we have had a lot of different conditions, both strong and light wind, waves and flat.  Also during the no wind days I was able to see the surrounding areas of Tarifa travel to Tangier in Morocco for the day, is very nice because is just 40min on the ferry.

There was an amazing view from the top of the big dunes and magic sunsets every day! The good thing about Tarifa is that is not too cold during this season, so you can really enjoy the outdoors.

During one of the no wind days, I did a photoshoot for WetSweets which is a new brand from Barcelona who make swimwear and I am really proud to say that I am one of their official ambassadors!

After 2 weeks of training I was feeling much more confident with myself in the water and I could go again high and add power to my tricks!

Usually in Tarifa there are two different winds, Poniente and Levante. when there is Poniente it is between 15-25 knots and is perfect for kiting, but when there is Levante the speed be more than 40 knots and it is super gusty, so we have to move to other spots where there is less wind. However even during the Levante we had a lighter day and I had a super session in Balneario, another spot in Tarifa.

Another good thing with Tarifa is that many people come because for the nice conditions to kite so a lot of my kite friends are here! Specifically my friend Therese Taabbel with whom I had a fantastic time! Training hard on the water but also enjoying the time our of the water to the max during the no wind days.

Every day here in Tarifa is better than the previous day so far, yesterday I had one of my best sessions in super good company again. You never have time to get bored!
