Living and Training in El Gouna, Egypt with Malin Amle

Malin Amle tells us about her time in El Gouna, Egypt and why it is one of her favourite places in the world to ride, train and call home.

I have spent my spring in El Gouna, Egypt. This is one of my favorite places to live and ride! After spending the winter in the Philippines I wanted to go back to a warm and windy place, so Egypt was perfect. El Gouna is like a second home for me right now, where I can enjoy quite a normal life ;) For a kiter at least!

I have a sweet apartment here by the marina and spend my days at Kiteboarding Club El Gouna for work and kiting. I love it!

Kitebaording Club is one of the best spots for kiting in El Gouna and has a really good atmosphere with a great crew and good food. It’s definitely the place to be if you ever decide to travel here.

This spring has been super windy, so we barely had any days off. The little kiter town has been busy since Easter with lots going on, even though it’s early on in the season. In April I was riding in my long wetsuit, while towards the end of the month I was slowly changing over to shorty and now I’m happy to shred in my new Sensi Bikinis !

After living in Australia for so long and mostly traveling to warm spots for kiting, I enjoy this place a lot with a nice temperature between 25-35 degrees. Egypt really has you covered if you seek warm temperatures both on land and in the water. It’s usually sunny and hot every day here!

On the few days we had with no wind I have of course been riding in the cable. I’m really getting into wakeboarding, and sometimes I even prefer it to kiting.

However, I think it’s more the fact that I like to mix everything up. Freestyle, big air, downwinders, cable, sliders….. you name it! That’s what is good here in Gouna, you have really windy days perfect for big air and then days with wind perfect for the 11 or 13m kite. My favourite conditions for training new freestyle tricks are light wind, however I love to go out on a really windy day going for big jumps and practicing some crazy grabs.

I also look forward to the days with no wind, as I get to practice more wakeboarding. I love it more and more by every session. Currently I’m trying to improve my style on the obstacles. It’s so much fun and a never-ending story, because I have a LOT to learn.

I hope to take my skills over to the kite some day and try to ride in a kite park, hopefully joining the Triple S in the future! Riding obstacles is a new big passion of mine….

Well, that’s me in El Gouna. I highly recommend this place and I cannot say enough times how much I love it here!

See ya in the water!
