KiteSista Meets: Sabrina Lutz

KiteSista Meets: Sabrina Lutz

You have all seen those heels walk across the screen and the style and power that followed when she left her heels on the beach. There is a lot more to this girl than just shoes.

You have all seen those heels walk across the screen in the very memorable start of her video, and then been amazed at the style and power that followed when she left her heels on the beach.

We had the pleasure of meeting the owner of those red shoes and spending a week hanging out and riding together, and we can tell you that there is a lot more to this girl than just shoes. So now it is time to introduce you to the most infectious smile on the water, Sabrina Lutz.

KSm: Hi Sabrina, can you tell us who you are and where your from?

SL: I am 24 years old and I have been kiting 8 years now (with a 2.5 year break), and I am a fashion design and management student in Hamburg.

KSm: So it is clear style is something prominent in your life, how do you incorporate this into your kiting?

SL: My aim is it to put as much commitment as I can into the sport. So I wanna go into the water and show other girls that they can reach that level or that they don’t have to be afraid of crashing while learning new tricks. I wanna give them the feeling/impression that girls can ride properly too.

KSm: So we see that might chose heels off the water, but on the water you are completely devoted to your boots. Can you tell us a bit more about why you love them so much?

SL: I fell in love when I started wakeboarding half a year ago. Afterwards I wanted to try it on my kiteboard and I loved the feeling of riding boots, edging and poping out harder and landing soft and smooth. I’d have to say that some of the crashes aren’t that funny, but I risk the consequences because most of the time, 99%, you will have golden hours with them.

KSm: When you are not in exotic locations what other sports do you like to do?

SL: I am studying and I love to ride at a cable park called “Wasserskilift-Hamburg Pinneberg” close to my university. After uni I used to go wakeboarding a lot last year. I am also competing in several competitions. Last year I had the chance to go for the Germans and the Europeans. It’s so much fun.

KSm: So it is clear you are not a girl who is afraid of a bit of competition. How do you prepare yourself for this both mentally and physically?

SL: I started competing after 1 year of kiting or less. First I have to go to bed really early the day before..I need my beauty-relaxing-sporty sleep :-) ..I usually start my morning with a fruit salad and some muesli with some nuts and seeds to get the energy. Before my first heat I need to stay alone and I need some music to calm down and to go through my heat in mind. It’s nice to share rooms on comps with other girls, I had so much fun with Holly Kennedy on the Europeans.

KSm: How do your family feel about the extreme sports and traveling that you do?

SL: My parents are both into kiting. My father taught my mum and my parents support me on competitions and events as much as they can. I am really happy about the fact that we all share the passion for kitesurfing together !!

KSm: We think that you are without a doubt a very pretty little lady. Can you tell us a little bit more about your style both on and off the water?

SL: When I am on the beach usually I am going for bikinis, hotshorts, skirts and board-shorts. When I am off the water I prefer to go with a bright pink jean shorts and a top or bikini …or just a bikini because I wanna give the impression: “hey, I am just a girl and we’re all are into girls stuff or fashion”. When I am in Hamburg the style changed completely, there I am dressing more ladylike, chick, hippie-hipster and feminine: redlips, smokey-eyes, dress and high-heels.

KSm: Now onto the girlie things… What do you always like to have with your when you travel?

SL: I need so many clothes and outfits (at the end of the vacation I am always asking myself, why did I bring so much?) especially high heels, but I never use them.

KSm: Do you prefer to ride with the girls, the boys or just yourself?

SL: I love to ride with girls because its always pushing you and your level …no matter if they are are pro or not. Unfortunately it does not happens that offen. I would love to ride with more girls at clinics or girls camps. Also with boys it is so much fun to go on the water, because they are also pushing your level.

KSm: What advice would you give to other girls who are looking toimprove and really push their riding level?

SL: It’s very important to ride with other girls, because then you can talk about some new tricks from a female perspective. I would go for some clinics or camps because you are always meeting and making some new good friends and you can improve your level at the same time.

KSm: We have to ask you about your video also, where did the idea for the intro come from and how did you find the video making process?

SL: I really wanted to make a video like this, because I wanted to show the girly side of me off the water and at the same time I wanna put down the girly thing by showing my proper non-girly, non-pussy tricks! I wanted to change the linking of : girls = pussy-tricks!

KSm: What future projects have you got going on that we should look out for?

SL: I am planning beside national and international competitions some clinics and camps. Hope to see some of you girls soon…

KSm: Sabrina it has been an absolute pleasure to meet you, we wish you all the best for everything in your future, …and leave the final words of wisdom to you.

Sabrina: Thanks KiteSista for the interview and I wanna see more girls riding on the water. Maybe we will get that chance to catch up at some clinics or camps! Xoxo, S.
